FOR COUPLES WHO STILL DON’T KNOW: HERE’S WHY URINATING AFTER INTIMACY MATTERS

    aliceBy aliceJune 16, 2026957 Comments3 Mins Read

Many of the things our bodies do automatically can have either positive or negative effects. That’s why staying informed about every aspect of our health is so important. A simple habit can help us avoid various complications—or, if ignored, lead to situations that are far less pleasant.

With that in mind, today we’re going to talk about something you’ve probably experienced after being in.ti.mate with your partner.

And if you don’t already do it, learning about the benefits may help you decide whether it’s something worth adopting when the moment is right.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed the same thing, but after s.3xual activity with my partner, I often feel the need to urinate.

The human body is incredibly designed, functioning almost like an autonomous machine. Without us even thinking about it, it performs actions that are highly beneficial for maintaining proper health and balance.

That’s why urinating after being with someone is considered one of those natural responses the body recognizes as important.

    POST-SEX URINATION: WHY IT’S RECOMMENDED

Without further delay, let’s look at some of the advantages and understand why it matters.

Many women feel the urge to urinate immediately after s3x, which is a completely normal response and serves an important purpose in the body.

Midwife Bella Jamett explains that the uterus rests near the bladder, and during s.3x, movement and friction can stimulate the sensation of needing to urinate.

“During s3xual activity, glomerular filtration in the kidneys increases, and it’s important to mention that when a woman reaches orgasm, the body releases s3x hormones like oxytocin, which is directly related to pleasure.

After s3x, urination, the urge to urinate, increases,” explains Katiuska Rojas, president of the College of Midwives of the Metropolitan Region.

The specialist notes that this urine is primarily water with low concentrations of urea and electrolytes, which is why it may appear clear and have little to no odor.

“The important thing is to urinate to prevent urinary tract infections, especially in women who are at risk of developing UTIs or who suffer from kidney disease or diabetes,” says the midwife. On the other hand, holding urine can create conditions that encourage bacterial growth.

In addition, urinating helps flush and cleanse the urethra and vulva, which contributes to maintaining vaginal health and protecting against pathogens that may be present.

Among the female s3xual organs, the clitoris also plays an important role in this process.

“The most common bacteria that causes these urinary tract infections is Escherichia coli, and when our clitoris is vasodilated due to the sensation of pleasure, orgasm also protects the urethra so that it is not endangered during s3xual activity,” says Rojas.

The expert explains that this process functions much like an airbag safety system, helping protect the urethra through a natural physiological and anatomical mechanism that shields it from external agents associated with urinary tract infections.
