An elderly woman had gone into the forest to gather mushrooms when she accidentally tumbled into a large pit. She fought desperately to climb out—until she noticed something horrifying beneath the soil.
Her pension was barely enough to survive on, so she had come up with a modest way to make ends meet: each morning she ventured into the woods, filled several buckets with mushrooms, sold part of her harvest at the market, and either dried or cooked the rest for herself.
That day was warm and bright, and after recent rains, mushrooms were abundant. She followed a familiar trail, heading toward the spots her late husband had once shown her. Her basket quickly filled with plump boletus mushrooms, and her spirits lifted. The smell of damp moss and the sound of birdsong—everything around her brought back memories of her youth.
Caught up in the moment, she wandered deeper into the forest, beneath an old, sprawling spruce tree, where she spotted a large white mushroom. She stepped toward it—but suddenly the ground beneath her gave way. There was a sharp cracking sound, and she dropped. The fall was brief but jarring—the impact with the wet earth knocked the breath from her lungs.
She found herself trapped in a deep hole, loose soil crumbling along the sides. She tried to cry out, but her voice was swallowed by the stillness of the forest. She attempted to climb out, but the walls were slick, and every root or clump of grass she grabbed tore free in her hands. Then, in the damp soil, she saw something horrifying and screamed in terror. 😲😱
Several minutes passed before she noticed something unusual about one side of the pit—the soil there appeared darker and more compacted.
She crawled closer and suddenly noticed something pale embedded in the earth. At first, she thought it was just a stone. She brushed it with her fingers, then jerked her hand back—it was bone. Human.
Her heart raced. With shaking hands, she began digging, and soon a face emerged from beneath the damp soil. A man’s face—ashen, with hollow eye sockets.
Most of the hair had decayed, but part of a shirt collar and a single button remained—rusted, yet oddly familiar.
The woman screamed and recoiled. It was her neighbor—the man who had gone missing a year earlier. The entire village had searched for him, but no trace was ever found. Back then, people assumed he had left for the city, abandoning his wife.
Now she understood—he had been here all along, buried beneath the ground. The pit she had fallen into had formed because the soil above his body had gradually collapsed over time.
The woman stood frozen, unable to move or cry out. The forest around her fell into a chilling, unnatural silence.
