My Parents Told Me to Give My Cheating Husband Everything to Protect My Sister—They Smiled Until the Judge Spoke

Part 1

My name is Eve Lewis. I am thirty-five years old, and I walked into the massive family court building already carrying the ugly truth everyone else in my family was too terrified to drag into the light.

The heavy, brass-handled oak doors of the courthouse had never felt so impossibly dense, like the gates to a punishment I hadn’t earned.

My stilettos struck the polished marble floor in a sharp, rhythmic cadence.

Click. Click. Click.

It sounded less like a woman walking toward a hearing and more like a countdown.

Across the center aisle of the gallery sat my soon-to-be ex-husband, Julian.

He wore a tailored charcoal suit that cost more than my first car and looked as serene as a man who had spent the entire morning rehearsing his innocence in front of a mirror.

He adjusted his silk tie, projecting the image of a wronged husband.

And right beside him, close enough that their shoulders brushed whenever he leaned over to whisper, sat my younger sister, Rosalind.

She refused to meet my eyes.

Her manicured fingers twisted nervously at the hem of her designer blazer while she stared at the scuffed toes of her pumps.

Rosalind had been the undisputed golden child of our family for three decades.

She was the beautiful one.

The fragile artist.

The daughter who existed in a permanent state of grace where no mistake was ever truly her fault.

My parents had built a fortress of excuses around her before anyone even thought to ask what she had done.

I should have anticipated this exact scene.

I knew their history.

I knew her immunity.

I just never imagined I would be expected to bleed to preserve it.

Julian’s aggressive defense attorney, Marcus Vance, had already filed preliminary paperwork seeking my home.

Not because Julian needed somewhere to live. He already had a luxury apartment downtown leased through a shell corporation.

He wanted the house because he knew what it meant to me.

It was my sanctuary.

The physical manifestation of everything I had survived and built.

But the house wasn’t enough.

He wanted the company too.

Lewis Construction Solutions.

My surname appeared on every commercial contract because I was the one who had resurrected the business from the ashes of my father’s near-bankruptcy.

For eleven grueling years, I had fought to rebuild it.

I had inhaled drywall dust, negotiated with suppliers before sunrise, chased contracts, studied regulations, and turned a dying family operation into a thriving commercial development company.

Julian had spent many of those same years drinking scotch at the country club and claiming his weekend trips were for client networking.

Some of them were actually weekends with my sister.

And then, as if demanding my home and business weren’t enough, he filed for full custody of our two children.

He wanted everything.

My house.

My company.

My children.

He assumed the pressure of my family would eventually force me to surrender.

But they had severely miscalculated the woman they were trying to break.
