I Found My Husband Dead in the Bathtub—The Next Day, His Death Certificate Led Me to a Secret I Never Expected

PART 2

Samantha wasted almost four miserable hours searching every possible corner of the residence for the missing gold. She inspected increasingly ridiculous hiding places while Harrison continued pretending he had no knowledge of what she was looking for.

Eventually, exhausted and furious, she gathered several personal suitcases.

Before leaving, she walked toward me and fixed me with an icy stare.

“Do not celebrate too early,” she sneered venomously. “My son is also a legal heir to Christopher’s massive estate.”

My lawyer merely lifted an eyebrow before responding smoothly, “To claim any inheritance rights, you will need to present formal documentation, a valid acknowledgment of paternity, and undergo biological DNA testing.”

Samantha laughed bitterly.

“That was already taken care of years ago. Christopher legally recognized Leo as his biological son the day he was born.”

With that, she walked away proudly, convinced she had already won the war.

I reserved a luxury hotel suite in downtown Atlanta because there was absolutely no chance I intended to sleep inside the same house where I had discovered my husband’s body.

When I awakened the next morning, more than ninety missed calls were displayed across my phone.

Every call had come from my uncle, Thomas Bishop.

Thomas was my deceased father’s brother, and he was the man who assumed complete control over Bishop Pharmaceuticals after both my parents were killed in a high-speed automobile crash.

“You need to rest and recover,” he had told me back then. “Let us handle the stressful corporate work while you focus on starting a lovely family.”

At the time, I was only twenty-six and utterly devastated by grief. I believed him without questioning his motives.

Thomas also trusted Christopher enormously, making it extremely easy for the two men to distance me from the company my parents had built.

Years afterward, I learned that Christopher had secretly used my inherited shares as collateral to finance the Reynolds family’s competing pharmaceutical factory.

Thomas had pledged some of his own company shares as well.

If the Reynolds factory collapsed, both families would face devastating financial consequences.

And that would finally give me the opportunity to reclaim control of Bishop Pharmaceuticals.

That afternoon, my in-laws unexpectedly appeared at my hotel suite. Mrs. Beatrice was crying uncontrollably into a handkerchief.

“Why on earth did you cremate my precious son so quickly without consulting us?” she wept loudly. “What exactly are you trying to hide from his family?”

I met her gaze without flinching.

“If you truly believe I murdered your son, go to the police station and file a formal report against me.”

Harrison studied me with a cold, deeply disturbing expression.

“Where exactly were you at the precise moment he died?”

“I was at a commercial pharmacy buying supplies,” I answered calmly.

“What a remarkably convenient story,” he spat back.

Without hurrying, I reached into my purse and removed a small plastic bottle of medicine.

“I went out to purchase prenatal vitamins.”

Both of them immediately froze as though lightning had struck the room.

I rested one hand gently over my lower stomach.

“I am pregnant.”

Harrison’s face changed in an instant.

What appeared there was not happiness or excitement.

It was absolute terror.

Two days afterward, the Reynolds family arranged an enormous memorial service for Christopher.

Samantha arrived wearing expensive designer mourning clothes and holding Leo by the hand as though she were Christopher’s official widow.

I entered shortly afterward accompanied by six imposing professional bodyguards.

Hundreds of wealthy mourners immediately began whispering among themselves.

My uncle Thomas hurried across the room toward me and hissed, “Gwen, please do not make an embarrassing scene here today.”

“A scene?” I asked innocently. “My legal husband just died, so it would be quite strange if his lawful wife did not attend his funeral.”

I softly touched my stomach before adding, “Besides, his legitimate child deserves a proper chance to say goodbye to his father.”

Samantha’s face turned completely white.

“That is absolute nonsense! That is completely impossible!”

Every conversation in the room stopped as the guests turned toward her.

I tilted my head slightly.

“Excuse me?”

“Christopher could never have any more children!” she yelled recklessly.

The atmosphere became painfully silent.

Leo nervously tugged at his mother’s black dress and whispered, “Mommy, Daddy explicitly told me that I was his only child and that everything he owned would belong to me.”

Several important corporate suppliers suddenly became fascinated with the floor, while others whispered urgently behind their hands.

The flawless public reputation the Reynolds family had spent years building was collapsing in front of their own business associates.

Samantha’s temper finally exploded.

“Christopher had a permanent surgical procedure done right after Leo was born! There is no possible way that baby inside you belongs to him!”

I gave her a quiet smile.

“It is truly fascinating how you happen to know such intimate medical details about my husband.”

My cousin Nicholas, Thomas’s son, immediately stepped between us.

“Gwen is legally married to Christopher. Under state law, any pregnancy occurring during a valid marriage carries a strict legal presumption of paternity until proven otherwise in a court of law.”

Samantha lunged toward me in fury, but one of my bodyguards seized her arm with little effort and forced her backward.

At that exact moment, Harrison grabbed his head in terrible pain and collapsed onto the polished marble floor.

An ambulance rushed him to the closest hospital after he suffered a massive ischemic stroke.

I was the person who calmly called the paramedics.

I was not finished with Harrison yet.

Before leaving the funeral home, I turned toward Thomas.

“Oh, by the way, as the sole heir to Christopher’s financial holdings, I am officially withdrawing all financial backing for the new Reynolds factory.”

Thomas’s face immediately lost its color.

“What did you just say?”

“I said the funding is canceled,” I repeated clearly.

“You have completely lost your mind!” he yelled frantically. “There are massive commercial bank loans secured by our primary shares in Bishop Pharmaceuticals!”

“I am well aware of that,” I replied with a calm smile.

That was the entire reason I had chosen this course.

If Thomas’s company could no longer satisfy its debt obligations, the bank would seize the collateralized shares and put them up for auction.

And I intended to be there waiting to purchase my parents’ legacy back for a fraction of what it was worth.

My attorney then removed a thick leather folder from his briefcase.

“There is one more crucial matter we must address.”

Samantha stared angrily at the folder.

“What is that supposed to be?”

“This is the official last will and testament of Christopher Reynolds,” my lawyer announced firmly.

Six months before his unexpected death, Christopher had signed a legally binding will.

According to its terms, almost all of his private wealth and corporate assets would transfer directly to any child born during his lawful marriage.

Samantha stared at us in disbelief before screaming, “That cannot be real!”

My lawyer remained composed.

“The document was properly notarized by a state official, and we possess full audiovisual recordings of the signing ceremony.”

Once again, I gently stroked my stomach while watching Samantha tremble.

Within seconds, Leo was no longer the guaranteed sole heir she had imagined he would become.

Yet she remained completely unaware of the darkest truth behind everything.

Christopher had agreed to that will for one reason alone.

He was absolutely convinced that I could never give him a child.

Christopher, Samantha, and my in-laws had no idea how I had become pregnant.

And by the time they discovered the answer, there would be nothing they could do to stop what was already underway.
